Morphology Stem
Stems up to 65(–140) cm long, erect to ascending, trailing or somewhat scandent
Morphology Leaves
Basal leaves lanceolate to suborbicular, 4–10 x 1.5–4.5 mm, acute or obtuse at the apex, entire or shallowly dentate, attenuate at the base, caducous, petiole 3–8 mm long, not twining; upper leaves linear to lanceolate, (3–)8–32 x (0.2–)3–5 mm, acute at the apex, entire except for the basal lobes, hastate to sagittate or the uppermost with attenuate base, petiole 0.5–8 mm long, sometimes twining
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers Pedicel
Pedicels (7–)15–30 mm long, ± straight, but curved at the tip
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers Calyx
Calyx-lobes 2.5–3.5 x 0.5–0.8 mm, linear-lanceolate or lanceolate, acute, with narrowly to somewhat broadly scarious margins, glandular-puberulent to glabrous
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers Corolla
Corolla 3.5–12 mm long, yellow with darker palate, with sparse eglandular or glandular hairs outside; tube 1.6–2.5(–4.5) mm broad at mouth; palate lanate; spur 1.5–6(–9) mm long, almost at right angle with the rest of corolla, straight or ± curved, shorter than rest of corolla
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers Androecium Stamens Filaments
Abaxial filaments sparsely villous
Morphology Reproductive morphology Fruits
Capsule 2.5–3.5 mm long, ovoid, obtuse, glandular puberulent at the tip or glabrescent
Morphology Reproductive morphology Seeds
Seeds 0.4–0.6 mm long, oblong or reniform, tuberculate, reddish to dark-brown; tubercles columnar to conical, obtuse to subacute, entire.
Distribution
N1–3; Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan, Socotra, Arabian peninsula
Ecology
Altitude range 0–1450 m.
Note
This species is highly variable, particularly in leaf shape and flower size. In Somalia there are small-flowered forms (corolla 3.5–6 mm long) with often hastate leaves, and large-flowered forms with up to 12 mm long corollas and linear, non-hastate leaves. The latter are also altogether larger and more spreading plants. Similar large-flowered forms are also found in Ethiopia and southern Yemen.
