The native range of this species is W. Central Tropical Africa to Zambia. It is a tree and grows primarily in the wet tropical biome.

Morphology General Habit
Tree c. 15-20 m. high, with smooth longitudinally striated dark-grey bark and spreading crown, apparently unarmed; young branchlets and leaf- and pinna-rhachides densely rusty-tomentose.

Leaves: pinnae 12-16 pairs; leaflets 20-54 pairs, 4-7·5 x 1-1·3 mm., linear-oblong, ± obtuse at the apex, subglabrous except for ciliate margins or the basal leaflets more pubescent; basal pair of leaflets differentiated as in Cathormion altissimum.
