Morphology General Habit
Shrub or tree, rarely a liana, 1.5 - 10 m tall, flowering and fruiting with the leaves
Morphology Trunk
DBH 5 - 15 cm
Morphology Stem
Young branchlets shortly pubescent, glabrescent; older branchlets glabrous
Morphology Leaves
Leaf rachis 36 - 145 mm long, shortly pubescent, not channelled above; petiole 4 17 mm long; leaflets (1 -)3 - 9, elliptic to ovate, sometimes narrowly so or lanceolate, tapered towards the apex, glabrous with a short pubescence on the midvein above, glabrous beneath, terminal leaflet largest, 75 - 195 mm long, 30 - 75 mm wide, lateral leaflets 12 - 133 mm long, 9 - 62 mm wide; petiolule 2 - 2.5 mm long, 1 mm wide, pubescent to glabrescent
Morphology Reproductive morphology Inflorescences
Inflorescence axillary, in clusters, sometimes on short brachyblasts, generally a raceme but occasionally branched at the base, 7 - 55 mm long, the axis finely pubescent; floral bract c. 1 mm long, deltoid, persistent in fruit; pedicel 6 - 9 mm long, slender, pubescent to sparsely so
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers
Flower fragrant; calyx splitting to the base at anthesis into 3 rarely 4 segments, c. 5 mm long, tightly recurved, glabrous internally and externally, persistent in fruit; petal white to pale yellow, blade 3 - 7 mm long, 2.5 - 5 mm wide, claw 2 - 5 mm long, the specimens from Brazil with no distinction between claw and blade and the apex slightly hooded; stamens 12 - 16, anthers 2.5 - 5.5 mm long, filaments 4- 4.5 mm long; ovary and immature fruit glabrous or densely pubescent; style 4 - 8 mm long, sometimes persistent in fruit, usually caducous

Distribution
Peru, Guyana, northern Bolivia, Brazil (Amazonas, Pará).
Ecology
Moist, dense forest; 50 - 800 m alt.
Vernacular
Jacamin (Brazil; Amazonas); Ywyrapyta (Brazil; Amazonas, Pará); Sacha barbasco (Peru); Wichiboyeru (Guyana).
Phenology
Flowering time: July to Jan.
Note
This species is generally a tree or shrub, but one specimen from Pará (Balée 2517) is described as a liana. It is variable in leaflet number, shape and indumentum, and fruit size and indumentum. Moreover, specimens from Peru have petals with a distinct blade and claw, the blade being flat and elliptic, whereas those from Brazil have obovate petals with a cuneate base, a slightly hooded apex, and little or no distinction between the blade and claw. No other morphological characters, however, were found to support this split. The leaflets are alternately arranged.
