Morphology General Habit
Deciduous tree 6–10 m tall; bark grey, smooth.
Morphology Branches
Branchlets brown becoming grey, pubescent, strongly lenticellate.
Morphology Leaves
Leaves paripinnate, in 3(4) pairs; stipules intrapetiolar, early caducous, leaving a low rim between the stem and the petiole; petiole 1.4–2.1 cm long, almost glabrous to pubescent, glabrescent; rachis 3–8 cm long, channelled on the upper surface, glabrous to pubescent; leaflets up to 7.6 × 4 cm, the terminal pair the largest, elliptic to obovate, slightly asymmetric, glabrous to pubescent, the distal side of the midrib pubescent near the base, apex bluntly acuminate, base asymmetrically cuneate with the proximal side expanded, venation slightly prominent on both surfaces; 1–3 resin vesicles near the base of each leaflet.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers
Flowers 8–12, in racemes that are leaf-opposed and appear terminal on short shoots; axis usually unbranched, terete, glabrescent; bracts and bracteoles very early caducous, the bracts c.2 × 0.5 mm, spathulate, with ciliate margins; bracteoles c.1.5 mm long, spathulate; pedicels 1.5–2 cm long, terete.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers Calyx
Sepals 4, 4.5 × 2 mm, ovate, reflexed at anthesis, glabrous.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers Corolla
Petals white, 4–5, 7 × 1.5 mm, narrowly elliptic to narrowly obovate, with a strong midvein.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers Androecium Stamens
Stamens 8–10; filaments 5.6–6 mm long, glabrous; anthers 2 × 3 mm.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers Gynoecium Pistil
Ovary 2-ovulate, asymmetrically obovate-elliptic, c.3.5 mm long, glabrous; stipe very short, glabrous; style c.7 mm long, glabrous; stigma capitate.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Fruits
Pod 10–14 × 3.5–4.5 cm, asymmetrically obtriangular, flattened, glabrous, ridged along each side of upper margin, explosively dehiscent; stipe c.8 mm long.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Seeds
