The native range of this species is Eritrea to Uganda (Mt. Elgon). It is an annual and grows primarily in the subtropical biome.

Diagnostic
Annual subglabrous herb, usually rather stout and spreading, differing from the two previous species in the leaflets rather wider in proportion to their length, up to 52 by 16 mm.; peduncles glabrous; outer bracts ovate, lobed or toothed, up to 7 mm. long; calyx-lobes ovate at the base, overlapping when mature, drawn out into subulate points, in all 4–7 mm. long.
