Perennial or annual bushy herb, up to 80 cm. tall; hairs on stem usually spreading and yellowish, ± 0.5 mm. long.

Leaves 1-foliolate; stipules narrowly triangular, up to 6 mm. long; petiole up to 5 mm.; petiolule 1–2 mm. long; leaflet elliptic-oblong to lanceolate, apex rounded or acute, up to 7 cm. long and 2.5 cm. wide, white pilose above and beneath; chief lateral nerves 5–6 on each side, very prominent and rufous pilose beneath.

Flowers orange or brick red, in short dense terminal pseudoracemes, usually of but 1–3 nodes, often also in uppermost leaf-axil; bracts narrowly triangular, persistent, ± 7 mm. long; pedicels up to 3 mm. long.
