The native range of this species is Tanzania to S. Tropical Africa. It is a perennial and grows primarily in the seasonally dry tropical biome.

Leaves pinnately 3-foliolate; leaflets 3.8–13.2 × 0.2–1.6 cm, narrowly oblong-elliptic to linear, paler on the lower surface, acute to almost rounded at the apex, cuneate at the base, glabrescent to silvery-pubescent on both surfaces, if glabrescent then often with scattered hairs on the veins, 3-veined from the base almost to the apex; petiole (1)2–7 mm long, channelled; rhachis 2–5 mm long; petiolules 1–1.5 mm long; stipules 2–5 × 1–2 mm, narrowly ovate to lanceolate, striate, usually caducous.
