Morphology General Habit
Intricate bushy shrub 1.8–5 m. tall; bark grey or pale brown, smooth, ultimately thinly flaking.
Morphology Branches
Branchlets clustered at the nodes, some growing out, others remaining short and not infrequently bluntly spine-tipped, covered at first with small white mostly straight and spreading hairs, soon glabrescent.
Morphology Leaves
Leaves 2–6 cm. long; stipules oblong or oblong-lanceolate, 2–5 mm. long, caducous; lateral leaflets (1–)2–3 on either side of rhachis, oblong-obovate to broadly obovate, 0.8–2.4 cm. long, 0.7–2.3 cm. wide, truncate to broadly rounded or emarginate at apex, cuneate, pubescent on both surfaces; primary lateral nerves 4–6 on either side of midrib, the lower ones ascending to upper half.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Inflorescences
Racemes or little-branched panicles appearing with flush of new leaves, (1.5–)2.3 cm. long, the axes shortly ± spreading pubescent to subglabrous; bracts lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, 0.5–1 mm. long, caducous; bracteoles near top of 1–1.5 mm. long pedicel, similar.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers Calyx
Calyx 2–2.5 mm. long, puberulous or subglabrous except on margins.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers Corolla
Corolla 5–6 mm. long, white, fragrant; standard oblong-obovate with fairly well-developed claw; wings little shorter than standard and slightly exceeding keel.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers Androecium Stamens
Stamens 9, united.
