Biogeografic region: Amazonia, Andean, Caribbean, Orinoquia. Elevation range: 0–1470 m a.s.l. Cultivated in Colombia. Naturalised in Colombia. Colombian departments: Amazonas, Antioquia, Atlántico, Casanare, Córdoba, Cundinamarca, Magdalena, Tolima, Valle del Cauca.
