Descriptions

Leguminosae, B. Verdcourt. Flora Zambesiaca 3:6. 2000

Morphology General Habit
A much branched prostrate cushion-forming subshrub, or forming mats or sometimes an erect bushy herb, 0.2–1.2(1.5) m long or tall.
Morphology Stem
Stems glabrous or almost so, or pubescent with tubercular-based hairs in Malawi variants.
Morphology Leaves
Leaves 10–24-foliolate; leaflets 1–7 × 0.5–2 mm, oblong, obovate-oblong or almost linear, acute to obtuse and mucronulate at the apex, obliquely rounded at the base, glabrous; main nerve somewhat eccentric; rhachis and petiole together 5–22 mm long with a row of spaced bristly hairs along the back; petiolules minute; stipules 3–9 × 0.6–2 mm, lanceolate, acuminate, conspicuously appendaged on one side at the base, striate, glabrous.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Inflorescences
Inflorescences axillary, few-flowered; rhachis 1–2 cm long, ± glabrous; peduncle 5–20 mm long; pedicels 5–14 mm long, laxly covered with very distinctly tuberculate hairs; bracts mostly 2-fid, 2–4 × 1.5–2.2 mm, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, auriculate at the base, nerved, glabrous, persistent; bracteoles 2.5–3.5 × 1–1.5 mm, ovate, acute or slightly acuminate, nerved, persistent.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers Calyx
Calyx with rather sparse tubercular-based hairs, 2-lipped; lips 3–6 × 2–2.5 mm, ovate or oblong, one subentire, the other 3-toothed.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers Corolla
Standard yellow with dark veining, 8–10 × 4–5.5 mm, obovate-oblong; keel petals not laciniate.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Fruits
Fruit of 1 or mostly of 2 articles joined by a narrow neck, each article almost round, one margin slightly curved, the other strongly curved, 3.5 × 3 mm, compressed, at first smooth save for venation, later minutely rugulose and usually with very sparse tubercular-based hairs.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Seeds
Seeds not seen.
