Morphology General Habit
Tree c. 30 m tall
Morphology Leaves Stipules
Stipules caducous, not seen; petiole 6.5 - 8.5 mm long, glabrous; leaf blade 8 - 10.5 x 2.7 - 3.6 cm, elliptic to ovate, chartaceous, glabrous, base cuneate, apex mucronate, venation prominent beneath
Morphology Reproductive morphology Inflorescences
Racemes generally solitary, 5.2 - 7.5 cm (- 26 cm) long, axillary, straight, raceme axis c. 1 mm in diam., sparsely fulvous- tomentose, hairs brownish, c. 16 - 20 flowers per raceme; bracts c. 0.7 - 11 x 0.4 - 0.6 mm, deltoid, sparsely fulvous-tomentose; bracteoles 0.7 x 0.4 mm, deltoid, sparsely fulvous-tomentose, attached to upper half of the pedicel or at the base of the calyx; pedicel 3.9 - 5 mm long, densely fulvous-tomentose; buds 8.7 - 9 x 2 - 3.4 mm, ovate-asymmetric, apex acuminate, base acute, densely fulvous-tomentose
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers

Morphology Reproductive morphology Fruits
Fruit globose, c. 3.4 x 2.1 cm, 1 - 3-seeded.
Distribution
Zollernia paraensis is a widely distributed species which is more frequent in the non-inundated areas of Amazonia, but also occurs in dense forest in the states of Ceará and Maranhão.
Ecology
It is a species of the "Floresta Pluvial Tropical de Terra Firme", in regions that are either always wet, or have a short dry season
Phenology
Flowering from April to September, fruiting from November to February.
Vernacular
Pau-santo (Pará) and orelha-de- negro (Mato Grosso).
Note
An important diagnostic character of Zollernia paraensis, not included in any previous work, is the difference in the colour and type of indumentum between the inflorescence axis and the pedicel. The inflorescence axis presents a sparsely tomentose, brown indumentum, while the pedicel is densely fulvous-tomentose. Z. paraensis also differs from all other species of the genus by its caducous stipules. We agree with the synonymisation of Zollernia ulei Harms, proposed by Yakovlev (1976).
