Seasonally dry tropical to subtropical forest margins, woodland, thicket and wooded grassland, or open grassland in rocky or swampy areas, or in old cultivations and waste ground
Distribution
Africa and Madagascar (c. 100-110 spp.), N and S America (Mexico to N Argentina, c. 40 spp.) and SE Asia to Australia (2 spp.); most New World spp. are S American (c. 30 spp.)
