The native range of this species is Europe to Central Asia and Himalaya, N. Africa to Ethiopia and Arabian Peninsula. It is an annual or biennial and grows primarily in the temperate biome. It is used to treat unspecified medicinal disorders, as animal food, a poison and a medicine and for food.
